Audience Research Online Survey Results

We managed to get 47 responses on our online survey.
We had 9 more females who did our survey than men. This might be one of the reasons for some of the results later.

I was surprised that so many people watched films, with most people watching a film every week and the second biggest category being more than once a week.
I had no idea that films were so popular, and this clearly shows that the people who took our survey clearly love films.

By far the biggest category was 15-21. This is bad as the data is so bias towards our age range, although this is the age we are targeting with the 15 rating.

Cinema and illegally were the two top options for this question. This shows that although the cinema has the far better visual experience many people still prefer to watch films at home, as it's so easy

By far people said they go to the cinema the most once every few months, this shows that most people just don't go the cinema that often. One of the reasons may be as it's too expensive.

When ranking the genres, it was very close showing that everyone has different tastes and you can't please everyone

Most people said they would watch a film with female protagonists, which is good as that will be the basis of our film.

From the 'Whats your favourite film?' question the results were strange, only 2 films had more than one person, say it was their favourite: 'Pulp Fiction' and 'Guardians of the Galaxy'. The other results were strange as well as although many of the films are brillaint, I wouldn't have expected people to say that is their favourite all time film, some examples are 'Little Miss Sunshine' or 'The Hobbit'. I think this shows that everyone has different tastes with different favourite films

Overall: I was surprised to find out that Comedy was the overall favourite genre, with thriller coming in second and horror coming last. Looking at who took our survey though this may be accurate as our largest demographic was Females aged 15-21 most of whom I would expect to enjoy Comedy movies. Sci-fi movies were also higher than I expected coming in third as again, that isn't generally a popular genre with the demographic.
By far most people said that they go to the cinema once every few months, but the outright winner for 'How often do you watch films?' was once a week. This is because when asked how people like to watch films, it was a close call between in the cinema and illegally, showing that a large amount of people watch more films at home over the internet either illegally or legally, than go to the cinema on a regular basis.

Pre-Production Proposal

Pitch
  • Night/Dark, large building, urban
  •  Women leaves with a friend, talking about work
  • See a man watching them from across the street
  • At a crossroad, and they go opposite ways
  • Over the shoulder shot of him watching her as she walks away
  • Walks down alleyway
  • Turns round a corner, shadow appears from where she just came from
  • Goes to house, opens the door but hears a sound
  •  Goes to check, nothing there, leaves door open
  • Someone goes in while she’s checking
  • All relaxed, normal, call her friend
  •  Man standing behind her and steps towards her
  • Suddenly it cuts to black and the title comes up, hear a scream
  •  See someone leave the house and walk away
  •  We hear the friend calling out her name over the phone while we see him walking away

Overall Narrative
  • Several killings follow no noticeable motive. Police franticly trying to find him before he kills more people.

Style – Tone
  • Urban London
  •  Lighting is low key with a lot of backlighting to create a lot of shadows, meaning you never see what he looks like
  • This builds suspense and adds tension as it makes the antagonist more mysterious

Characters/ Costume

  •  Smart clothing, just left work
  • Aged 19-21, young
  •  Looks very normal, nothing seemingly extraordinary about her
  •  Example perhaps Drew Barrymore at the start of Scream
  • Other Girl
  • The same
  • Man
  • Dark, hoodie, all black, hood up
  • No age, can’t see him
  • Could be anyone

Graphics
  •  Cut to black screen
  •  Titles fade in
  • Simple white text
  • Blocky text
